Although this is only 23 minutes long, the experience of Sacrament is harrowing enough to warrant not having been lengthier. This is unforgiving death metal, at times blasting, at times doom-like, but at all times mercilessly crushing and dark. I mean, even Abyssal has more frequent “hopeful” moments and melodies on their dismally dark and cavernous albums, and that is saying something here. Though not ever to be confused for a tech-death album, this is sufficiently non-linear and unsettling so as to be far from a straightforward death metal listening experience, but you will be rewarded for embracing it. The only disappointment here is that we had to wait five years for Sacrament, and I sincerely hope that Lvcifyre is preparing a full-length album for us sooner rather than later. Receive this unholy Sacrament and descend into Hell!
