Cavernous, riff-centric death metal of traditional composition and very slick and modern production. Goes mostly at breakneck speed with some doom touches here and there. One hell of a good ride Favorite track: Transfixed on the Gate.
This is the place that melody and brutality meet to do the dance of death. Killer album from beginning to end. Dark and brutal with enough technicality to satisfy the snobs.
Favorite track: Through Stygian Catacombs.
The greatest thing about their debut is even though the band members are death metal royalty they don't rest on their laurels. Ruinous has created a sound that's familiar but also one you haven't heard yet.
Favorite track: From Flames of Malice Born.
This is a contender for DM record of the year which is big call with the likes of Ulcerate and Gorguts dropping great records this year also. Here we have a different form of DM though, a hybrid of old school DM, grindcore and death/doom thundering over the listener like a stampede of hellhounds.
Favorite track: Dragmarks.
What can you really expect when you get together former or
current members of GOREAPHOBIA, INCANTATION,
FUNEBRARUM or DISMA but death metal of the utmost
Formed right after Alex Bouks (guitar), Matt Medeiros
(guitar & vocals) and Shawn Eldridge (drums) all stepped
out of their duties with FUNEBRARUM to form their own
band, RUINOUS perfectly embodies
everything those guys have been up until now while forging
a sound on its own. While Medeiros brings on the table the
brutal, ominous vibe that made FUNEBRARUM's
‘The Sleep of Morbid Dreams’ such an amazing
experience, Bouks' more classic metal background adds more
Powered by a supra-guttural growl and a very ripping
approach, ‘Graves of Ceaseless Death’ also draws
inspiration from grindcore, thrash and even doom (check out
‘Procession of Ceaseless Sorrows’ or the epic, 10-minute
long ‘Through Stygian Catacombs’ for proofs on the latter!).
Yet death metal remains their favorite playground and as a
matter of fact, their debut sits nicely somewhere in between
the old and the new school. Never afraid of brutally wielding the
axe, yet with a clear and powerful sound, with one of the
fattest and most crushing guitar sounds you can imagine on
the top of that.

Listening to this, I felt as though roots had grown up from the Abyss, burrowed through the soles of my feet into my veins, and proceeded to syphon my soul down into a putrid cavernous expanse where, in the dank recesses at the bottom, a menagerie of hideous and terrifying beasts were ready to gnaw and crush my soul into oblivion. I love this record! Peter Christian N. Skov
